Zika is a hot topic in international travel. Most people who have Zika have absolutely no symptoms, and can pass the virus to others without knowing it. A person with Zika can be bit by a mosquito, which could then bite another person and pass the virus to them. Zika can be sexually transmitted. Zika can also be passed from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby.
A pregnant woman should avoid travel to areas where Zika is present because the virus could pose a risk of severe birth defect to her unborn baby. Places that have Zika virus are changing all the time. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) works closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to closely monitor the ever-evolving incidence of Zika worldwide.
